On May 31, 2025, runners, walkers, and families gathered at the Greensboro Public Safety Training Center to honor the legacy of Chip Seaver, a revered U.S. Marine and firefighter affectionately known as “Rooster.” The annual Chip Seaver Memorial 5K “Rooster Run” brought together participants of all fitness levels for a morning filled with excitement, camaraderie, and purpose.
The event featured two main options: a challenging 5K race through the scenic Irvin Park greenway and a relaxed 1-mile walk/run for those wanting to take part at a lighter pace. The race route’s starting and finishing points at the training grounds created a dynamic experience, complete with cheers from local safety officials and even a meet-and-greet opportunity with Sparky, the Fire Dog.
The run is more than just a race—it’s a heartfelt tribute to Seaver’s adventurous spirit and dedication to service. Proceeds from the event benefit the Chip Seaver Memorial Fund, supporting the fire academy and training initiatives at GTCC. Each stride strengthens Greensboro’s safety future while keeping the memory of a local hero alive.
Participants and spectators alike shared in post-race festivities, high-fiving firefighters and celebrating community unity. The event embodies how Greensboro rallies to honor past leaders while investing in the next generation.
